Wireless sensor networks have attracted tremendous interests from industrial, academic, and government communities due to its vast potential applications. In particular, by commanding a larger number of distributed, connected, and coordinated sensor nodes, wireless sensor networks can effectively act as the human-physical world interface in future digital world through sensing and actuating. Unfortunately, wireless sensor networks at the same time are constrained by severe resource limitations including computation, communication, and storage. In this tutorial, we will examine the unique challenges in wireless sensor networks, detail the state of the art solutions, and present open research challenges. Detailed topics to be covered include:
|
- Sensor networks and applications
- Architecture and example platforms
- Physical layer
- Media access layer
- Transport layer
- Routing
- In-network signal processing
- Localization and synchronization
- Security
- Open research challenges and future directions
